Clary Accomplishments
01
Road Paving & repair
Take a drive in Hendersonville and there is no denying that many roads need repair. Mayor Clary has continued to deliver on his commitment to repave roads. He has led a transformation from a time when the City repaved 3 miles of roads before he became emayor to now repaving an average of 30 miles per year. Next year it will be 60 miles.
02
Traffic Improvements
Mayor Jamie Clary is currently leading several city traffic projects.
-
Synchronizing traffic signals: Using $4 million in state funds, the signals are being coordinated to move traffic more efficiently.
-
Building a roundabout outside Durham Farms: Using money from home builders, this project will revise the junction of Avant Lane, Drakes Creek Rd., Anderson Rd., and Countryside Dr.
-
Widening the intersection of Stop 30 Rd. and Drakes Creek Rd.: The State and City have hired a company to acquire property for the project. Construction will follow.
-
Adding a turn lane at Avondale Rd. and Saundersville Rd.: The new lane helps businesses and parents move more safely through the intersection.
03
Financial Stability
Even though Mayor Clary has never voted for a property tax increase, he has led the board of mayor and aldermen to create a sizeable rainyday fund that guarantees a high level of city services. Those dollars in the bank produce investment income and opportunities to reduce expenses by self-insuring some city assets. Meanwhile the City has paid down its debt and is on track to be out of debt in 2033. The last time the City was debt-free was 1975.
04
Economic Development
Economic development provides tax revenue, creates local jobs, and improves our infrastructure. As mayor, Jamie Clary is focused on bringing jobs to Hendersonville for people who live in Hendersonville. In 2022 businesses invested $50 million inside Hendersonville, a record. In 2023 businesses increased that to $116 million.
05
Safety of families
The safety of Hendersonville is a top priority for Mayor Clary. He has led the City to be recognized by Smart Asset as the 41st safest U.S. suburb as he proposed several pay raises for police officers and firefighters. Clary helped launch the 911 emergency communication center, build a new first-responders communication tower, install license plate recognition cameras, and build two fire halls.
06
Parks & recreation
During Mayor Clary's terms in office, he led
-
construction of two in-line hockey rinks in Volunteer Park,
-
construction of Mary's Magical Place,
-
a rugby park and turf soccer field,
-
two new greenways, and
-
additional lights to several athletic fields to accommodate the massive participation growth of football, baseball, and soccer.
07
Community Involvement
A Mayor who is visible and involved in the community will create a better city through partnerships and feedback. Mayor Clary is always visible and interacting with the community including speaking to elementary classes, launching a summer reading camp to help young students, contributing to the Sumner Ride for Seniors program, initiating Coffee with Cops, participating in Biz Town and career days at several schools, and regularly meeting with teachers and principals to understand their needs.
08
Growth & Appearance
Mayor Jamie Clary loves Hendersonville and is passionate about continuing to keep the city attractive. Mayor Clary initiated planting trees at the entrances to Hendersonville, developed a grant program to improve the aesthetic of West Main St., worked to preserve a historic home, picks up litter along roadsides, generated dozens of positive news stories, and has never voted for applications for new apartments or subdivisions. Money magazine named Hendersonville the 16th best city in the country.
09
Local, Regional & State Governments
A successful and thriving city must work with its neighbors on important issues. Mayor Clary has relationships that have helped Hendersonville: securing $40M in grants for road projects, influencing the state's widening of Vietnam Veterans Blvd. and the alignment of New Shackle Island Rd. with Walton Ferry Rd., and encouraging the County to improve intersections along New Shackle Island Rd.
10
Personal Accountability
Since being elected, Mayor Clary has attended 99% of all BOMA meetings, 95% of Emergency Communications Center meetings, and 95% of the Sumner County Resource Authority. To receive input from bodies he is not part of, Mayor Clary frequently attends meetings of the Capital Projects Committee, Planning Commission, Golf Course Commission, Industrial Development Board, and the Parks Board. Even though he is not required to keep a time card, he works an average of 46 hours per week.
